STEPS TO BECOMING AN AYSO VOLUNTEER
- Go to www.ayso690.org
- If you had a child registered or volunteered last year with AYSO Region 690, you should select “LOGIN” at the top right corner of the screen. As you register your child for this upcoming season, you will be given the opportunity to select the option to volunteer. Follow the steps and update any information as needed. You will then be able to e-sign and print your form. Please bring your form to registration.
- If you did not have a child registered or did not volunteer last year with AYSO 690, you should select “Register Now” at the top right corner of the screen. You will need to create an account and follow the steps to complete the volunteer information with AYSO.
- Each household volunteer needs their own unique login. Please don't share an email!
- Background Checks
- The state of PA requires ANYONE who volunteers with children in any capacity to obtain both a background check and Child Abuse clearance. If you have moved to the state within the past 10 years, you will also need an FBI clearance.
- There are NO exceptions to this rule. You MUST have your clearances, or you cannot volunteer. The good news is there is no fee for the background check and Child Abuse Clearances!
- If you submitted your child abuse clearances within the past 5 years to AYSO, GOOD NEWS – please skip to #7.
- If you have not submitted your child abuse clearances with the past 5 years to AYSO, please continue to #3.
- Obtain Background Check
- When you register as a volunteer with AYSO, you will be emailed a link from Sterling to obtain your background check. Watch for this. If one does not show up, please contact us.
- Follow the instructions in the email to complete your background check.
- Obtain Child Abuse History Clearance
- Go to https://www.compass.state.pa.us/cwis/public/home
- This clearance takes a little longer to complete. It does ask for every single address you’ve resided at since 1975. You will then be asked to list everyone you’ve lived with since 1975: parents, siblings, spouse(s), children, roommates, grandparents, etc. The good news is they only want as much as you can remember.
- You must first create a Keystone ID. Select “Create Individual Account" & follow the prompts to create your username.
- You will then receive a confirmation email with your temporary password, click on the link in the email to proceed to log in and it will prompt you to immediately change your password.
- You will then need to select “Create Clearance Application”.
- When you get to “application purpose,” select “volunteer” and “other” for volunteer category.
- Please list the agency name as: American Youth Soccer Organization.
- Follow the prompts on each page to complete the application.
- Once completed, you will receive an email confirming the receipt of your request and within a week you will receive another email indicating the clearance is complete.
- You will need to log in to the site in order to view your completed clearance.
- Please print and save your clearance.
- Fingerprinting

- Select “Digital Fingerprinting”
- Follow the directions to register online – use service code 1KG6ZJ
- You will need a debit or credit card to submit payment
- Once you have registered you will need to print the confirmation
- To complete the fingerprinting, you will need to go to an approved Fingerprint Location, a list of locations and hours is provided on the site.
- Remember to print a copy of your payment to be reimbursed.

- Online Training
- Volunteers must complete the AYSO Safe Haven Training, Concussion Course, Cardiac Arrest and Safe Sport online.
- All but Safesport only need to be completed once – NOT each year. Safesport has a 30 min update yearly.
- To access these, log into AYSO690.org. Once you have registered as a volunteer, on the left side you will find a volunteer button. That will take you to a page that you will see AYSOU link under name. You will be redirected and automatically logged in. You will go into the training library and find these courses under the Safe Haven Folder, select the online option for each (Safe Haven, CDC Concussion, Sudden Cardiac Arrest).
- Safe Sport is also shown there but will redirect you to a different website with its own login. You can also find this training by navigating back to the "Volunteer" section of the AYSO690 website. Choose the square beside SafeSport under your Volunteer profile. Hit "Renew &Update" and you will be redirected.
- A screen will pop up where you will click on the “click HERE” link or copy and paste the URL into your browser to begin training.
- This site requires its own login information. It will direct you through the necessary course. Please navigate back to the SafeSport home dashboard to retrieve your certificate after completion.
- Coaches (and assistants) are also required to take the coach training for their division, please ask if you are unsure. Again, remember to select ONLINE and not IN PERSON.
- Certificates should be emailed to [email protected].
- Code of Conduct
- A link will be shared with you, upon your approval as a volunteer, to complete the AYSO 690 Code of Conduct applicable to your position.
- Stay up-to-date
- Stay connected with our Facebook page (search: AYSO montoursville 690) and www.ayso690.org for updates as AYSO is constantly changing their requirements and options for completing those requirements
- Live training courses will be offered over the next few months, please make every effort to attend these live trainings so that you can become a certified coach and/or referee
